TOC qualified debater, Newark RR top speaker, outrounds at 9 bid tournaments

DebateDrills was the single most valuable resource of my debate career. As a debater from a school that focused attention almost exclusively on speech, it was often difficult to find both knowledge about the activity and friends in the community. Going into my junior year, I was only barely familiar with any of the jargon used in high-level debates — I had only attended a few weeks of camp, had no other coaching resources available, and had never competed on the national level before. I started working with DebateDrills that summer, then went on to acquire 2 bids within the first 3 bid tournaments I ever attended and ended my junior year with 4 bid rounds in 5 tournaments. With DebateDrills, I found a family of coaches and peers who supported me through wins, losses, sickness, and awards. It’s truly an amazing thing to collaborate with people with genuine continued interest in your success. The best thing about being part of the team is being continuously exposed to new ideas and having the freedom to work on your own passion projects and argumentative interests while still developing a comprehensive knowledge of common positions from other approaches to the topic. DebateDrills provides detailed topic analyses from every angle, discussions on Slack, reading calls, mid-topic check-ins, tournament strategy sessions, and the like. Participating in complicated dialogue about strategy and literature, or even just absorbing information from the sidelines, showed me how some of the most accomplished debaters in the country think about debate. A lot of these things are often unknown or underexplored by prospective applicants, but they’re important benefits that should be taken into consideration by critics and those considering DebateDrills alike.
