Joining the DebateDrills club team in my sophomore year was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in terms of debate. Before the club team, I was overwhelmed at national circuit tournaments with the sheer numbers and prep advantage that other schools seemed to have, while I was competing alone. The club team changed all that, with coaches helping with writing prep, doing drills, and answering questions on Slack before tournaments, and providing critical support at tournaments. With the help of the wide variety of knowledge brought by all the coaches, I went from a freshman who was just rereading positions I didn’t understand that I took from the wiki to having the capability to proficiently understand and go for a wide variety of arguments from T Framework to Deleuze to an Econ DA. Along with this, the camaraderieamong the team was quickly and very well established, with everyone supporting each other to bring each other up, which was very helpful at long weary tournaments, and helped make the experience a lot more enjoyable and satisfying
