Jaya debated in Lincoln-Douglas (8th-11th) and Policy (11th-12th) at Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles. She is now a freshman at Harvard College studying Government.
As a competitor, she accumulated 16 bids in LD, and 11 bids in Policy, totaling 27 bids over her high school career. In her junior year, competing in LD, she was a finalist at the Tournament of Champions and won the National Debate Coaches’ Association Tournament. Additionally, she won multiple other national tournaments including the Greenhill Round Robin, Meadows, Damus, and Stanford. In her senior year in Policy, she won Meadows, Alta, and UNLV, but was unable to compete in national championships due to covid.
Jaya is a passionate advocate for women in debate. She co-founded Girlsdebate.org, and was editor in chief of the website for 2 years. She enjoys teaching about a variety of topics including feminist international relations and settler colonialism, as well as soft left affs and topicality.
