Private Prep-Sharing Team

In the first half of the 2016-2017 season, our 9-member team qualified 4 debaters to the TOC, received 11 bids, debated in 18 bid rounds, finished 3rd at the Greenhill, Bronx and University of Houston Invitational, 2nd at the Yale and Voices Invitational, and championed the Walt Whitman Invitational and Newark Round Robin Invitational. Want to replicate this success next year? Last year, we had more students apply for the Dropbox than spots available. This year, though we’ve expanded and hired more coaching, we anticipate running out of space. Apply here if you want to get serious about becoming a competitively successful debater.

Why Private Prep-Sharing?

Why Private Prep-Sharing?

Many students are at a competitive disadvantage because their schools do not invest in elite debate coaches who help find high quality evidence and write strategic cases that can win big debates. Three years ago, I started running a pseudo-team comprised of students across the country that produce files in a closed-loop network using a file sharing application called Dropbox.

Based off overwhelmingly positive feedback, I have expanded this service every year since 2014. To ensure high quality, there is a cap on the number of students we accept every year. For the 2017-2018 season, we anticipate having roughly 20 spots available and 3-4 coaches to manage the direction and contents of the Dropbox.

This team attracts students from all over the US with all types of debate style preferences, ensuring that prep is holistic and diverse, with a combination of high quality cases in every major form of debate (e.g. util, theory, framework, and critiques). Each member of our coaching staff has a different area of expertise, ensuring that students have a subject matter expert to approach at all times.

Students on the Dropbox get access to a supportive community of teammates and coaches, have all their work closely edited, get individualized pre-tournament strategy and judge preference meetings, have access to endless resources (including everyone else’s prep and all of our backfiles, which are high quality and ready to use), and experience significantly more competitive success than they would have otherwise.

Coaches

Coaches

Our coaching staff are subject matter experts in all the popular forms of debate. Paras spearheads the util and T/theory prep, Amit spearheads the critical prep and Nina spearheads the framework prep.

We will help you prepare for the resolution, lead the direction of content creation within the Dropbox, and understand what the most popular positions will be and how to respond to them. We are always available via email, phone and Facebook to answer any and all questions you have about all things debate, from substantive questions about debate strategy to logistic and administrative questions.

Most importantly, our track records of success as both competitors and coaches speaks for itself. The best debaters in the country consistently approach us to help them think through their strategies in our areas of expertise, and this has shown in how our students have performed this season. We genuinely enjoy coaching debate and look forward to potentially working with you!

"He managed to give debaters like me who does not have a team that regularly competes on the national circuit an opportunity to succeed by making a national circuit team for us, consisting of individuals that he coaches across the nation."

Cost is $2750, all inclusive for the year. It's broken down as follows: $750 for the September/October topic, $750 for the November/December topic, and $1250 for the January/February topic (because its the TOC topic and lasts longer/has more bid tournaments on that topic). This is basically the cost of a 2-week camp, and we strongly believe that our services will be much more helpful to your competitive success than a 2-week camp will be.

The only discount we offer is 20% to students who were on the 2016-2017 team.

FAQ

FAQ

FAQ's

Are there any rules I have to abide by to join this Dropbox?
Yes. This system only works if it remains a closed loop and everyone carries their weight. The three most important rules to mention are a) you must agree to be 100% transparent, i.e. everything you produce must go on the dropbox, b) you must agree to not share any content on the dropbox with anyone in the debate community who is not part of the team, including your school teammates and other coaches, and c) you must agree to carry your own weight prep-wise. We assign case positions, blocks and research to each student depending on their strengths and thus the dropbox becomes holistic, with a combination of high quality util, kritik, and framework oriented cases.
Can I still join if I attend a “big” school?
Yes, as long as your school coach approves and you can maintain the 100% transparency rule.
Can you keep my participation on the Dropbox confidential?
No, we cannot. We are, however, happy to sit and talk with your school administrators about their concerns about joining our team.
Can I see examples of the work and materials produced from previous years?
Definitely! Here is a dropbox link that will give you a good snapshot of the content on this past year’s September/October topic:
I can’t afford this service--do you offer discounts or any other services?
If you are not a returning student, we do not offer any discounts. We recognize debate can be expensive, and have accordingly started 3 full scholarships to this team. We encourage you to apply for those if this service is outside your budget.
Can I still hire other coaches and work with students not on the dropbox?
Yes, assuming you do not share the content of the dropbox with the other coaches and students you share prep with.
