The Cameron Baghai and Tara Norris Scholarship
July 5th, 2016
Dear LD Debate Community,
It is my pleasure to announce that debatedrills is offering two full ride scholarships to our team dropbox for the upcoming 2016-2017 season. These scholarships are available to all competitors, but priority will be given to those who a) have financial need, b) are committed to succeeding on the National Circuit and c) come from a small (or non-existent) debate program.
Cameron (Rancho Bernardo CB ‘09) and Tara (Rancho Bernardo TN ’08) were both national circuit debaters who were quintessential “lone wolves”. Despite lacking access to prep groups, not having the ability to travel on the national circuit (neither went to a tournament outside of California), and never being able to afford coaches, both qualified to the TOC and achieved major national success. They were a tremendous source of inspiration to me personally and are essentially family. This website would not have been possible without all their guidance when I was in 9th and 10th grade. They also embody the traits that all circuit debaters should aspire too: hard working, humble, passionate and intense. Cameron is currently at Yale Law School and Tara has recently graduated from Harvard Law School.
Applications will be scored by 4 people (Tara, Cameron, Amit and myself) on a 10-1 scale (10 being the highest, 1 being the lowest). The two highest scored applications will win the scholarship. All scoring and applicant data will be kept confidential. Please take time to think thoughtfully about your responses. We will be looking for students who are passionate about debate, have demonstrated a commitment to success and exemplify the traits and characteristics mentioned in the previous paragraph.
