Ray joined DebateDrills in 2021. He has been a teacher since 2003, teaching Spanish, then Drama, then, starting in 2011, Public Speaking. Ray has been a Speech and Debate coach since 2011. From 2021-2025, he coached full-time for an online Speech and Debate program, teaching about 10 classes a semester in Public Forum, Congress, Speech events, and general public speaking. He also was one of the designers of their curriculum. Since 2019, Ray coached adult professionals in public speaking as well. Ray has coached over a thousand students, with plenty of trophy winners, advancers to out-rounds, and state and national champions. His journey began in high school, where his events were Policy Debate and Prose/Poetry. Ray's teaching philosophy is: the more a student enjoys, the more they learn.
