Stavan competed in Public Forum for four years at Fairmont Preparatory Academy, serving as captain for the last two. Over his career, he championed the Berkeley Invitational without losing a ballot, the Cal RR, and three quarter-bid tournaments—La Costa Canyon, UNLV, and Nano Nagle. He also reached the semifinals at Glenbrooks. He won the NDCA Championships in back-to-back years and was awarded the Averill Cup at the end of his junior year, recognizing him as the top-ranked team in the country. During the 2024–2025 season, he was the only debater invited to six round robins, winning first place speaker at the Blue Key Round Robin. He qualified to the Tournament of Champions (TOC) all four years of high school and was the gold bid leader for the 2023–2024 season, earning a total of eight gold bids. Stavan enjoys both high-speed, technical debate and progressive debate, particularly theory, while also appreciating lay debate for its persuasive elements. His students have made history by being the first team in their school's history to qualify to G-TOC. Stavan attends UCLA majoring in molecular biology. He is an NSD alum and is excited to pass on his love and passion for debate!
